Dearborn Heights, Michigan (WXYZ) - “I am in shock,” said Kim Durham. “I just can’t believe that it happened.”
Durham lives on Nightingale across the street from 33-year-old Nytia Dupree. She says the woman was her friend.
On Thursday night Durham arrived home to find police at Dupree’s home. Someone had stabbed her to death.
Durham says Dupree will be missed. She is a mother to a 16-year-old, and was a teacher in Detroit Public Schools.
“She just had this smile every time you saw her. She always took time to say hello. We would have barbeque's here, and barbeque's there. We lost a good neighbor.”
Dearborn Heights Police are still investigating the killing. They say Dupree’s husband called 911 and told them a home invader had stabbed his wife. Police arrived minutes later. They aren’t releasing details, but what they found led them to arrest Nytia Dupree’s 38-year-old husband. He is in jail, but has not yet been charged with a crime.
“What he told police, did not match up to evidence at the scene,” said Dearborn Heights Police Capt. Jeff Seipenko.
Police are not saying whether there was a history of domestic violence at the home. Neighbors say if there was a history, it was a secret history.
