DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) - Dearborn Police have one person in custody after a basketball court dispute that lead to a fatal shooting,
It happened on a court at Riverside Academy on Maple near Schaefer around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses say two men got into an argument on the court. During the fight, one of the men pulled out a gun and started shooting.
According to police, a 23-year-old Dearborn resident was shot multiple times and killed. They say the suspect is a 35-year-old Dearborn resident whose name is not currently being released pending further investigation.
Witnesses say that after the shooting the suspect was attacked by others who were on the court. He was taken into custody and then transported to Oakwood Hospital.
Dearborn Chief of Police Ronald Haddad stated, “Our hearts go out to the family of the victim of this senseless crime. This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dearborn Police Tip line at 313-943-3093.”
