WOODHAVEN, Mich. (WXYZ) - A local family is devastated and wants justice after a violent attack on a loved one. It happened on Hall Road and Van Horn late Sunday afternoon.

The 56-year-old GM retiree was driving home from the drug store. He says a small car was following closely when the driver quickly moved in front of him.

The victim says he couldn't avoid the minor crash.

Two young men reportedly got out of the car and were speaking to the 56-year-old victim when one of the suspects punched him in the jaw.

"He sucker punched my dad and my dad fell. The doctors say they believe they kicked my dad in the jaw too," says the victim's son Nicholas.

The family has asked us not to use their last name for fear of safety.

Two drivers stopped to help. The victim's family thinks they saved his life.

The victim was able to get up and run into the nearby Moose Lodge. They called for help and the victim ended up at the University of Michigan Hospital.

He had surgery to implant two metal plates, but he is expected to have a full recovery.

The family of the victim thinks this was a set up and that they wanted to rob or carjack the victim. The only description police have of the suspects is two white males in their 20s who were driving a small dark sedan.

If you know anything about this accident, call Woodhaven Police.

If you are one of the drivers who stopped to help please contact 7 Action News Reporter Cheryl Chodun by calling 248-827-9407.
