Father charged with huffing behind the wheel

LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) - A young father is accused of putting his own bad habits before the safety of his two young daughters.

Police say thirty-two-year-old Donald Dewar passed out from huffing compressed air while driving his daughters home.

Farmington Hills police say Dewar was inhaling compressed air while driving around with his two little girls and it caused him to pass out behind the wheel.

Dewar crossed into oncoming traffic, crashed into two trees, and stopped just short of a creek. Thankfully his daughters, aged 2 and 5, were not injured.

Police say they had to snatch the can of compressed air out of his hand to keep him from inhaling again and arrested him.
Dewar’s girls were brought home to Livonia by their mother. She picked them up at the police station.

Dewar is charged with child abuse and reckless driving. He faces up to a year in jail, but for now he has been released.

As a condition of the personal bond he was granted, Dewar is not allowed to have any contact whatsoever with his two little girls, and he is also not to use any illicit drug drugs.
