Former airport authority chief Turkia Mullin subpoenaed in lawsuit filed by activist

(WXYZ) - Embattled former Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Turkia Mullin will be deposed Wednesday in connection with a lawsuit claiming her hiring was illegal.

An attorney will also grill Mullin’s former colleagues, including former Wayne County Metro Airport Authority Board Chair Renee Axt.

Mullin, Axt and other members of the airport board were subpoenaed as part of a lawsuit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court by activist Robert Davis. Davis filed the suit claiming Mullin’s hiring was done unlawfully because the committee that picked her did so during secret meetings.

Davis’ lawsuit claims the closed-door meetings violate the state’s Open Meetings Act.

“They blatantly violated the open-meeting’s act, in which they met in secret and in private,” Davis told Action News.

“They kept away from the public how the decision was made as it relates to the hiring of Turkia Mullin as the CEO for the airport.”

Mullin was let go from her position at the airport at the end of October in the wake of a severance pay-out scandal the Action News investigators first broke.

The chairperson of the airport authority board resigned shortly after Mullin's firing. Mullin has said her termination was unfair and that she will seek legal action.

The deposition in Davis' case against Mullin, Axt and other members of the airport authority board is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Novi.
