DETROIT, Mich (WXYZ) - They were beaming at a special photo shoot.
About a dozen teenage girls smiling and feeling confident in front of the camera, something that wasn't happening for them before they became members of Full and Fabulous.
"When they come to us they are sad want to lose weight and have low self esteem and as you can see, look around this room its magical" said Full and Fabulous Founder and CEO Sharon DuMas. She also started the National Association of Full Figured Teens.
The program started 30 years ago and is now in 7 Detroit Schools with 15 girls from each.
"At first I was scared to do anything, I was scared to come out of my shell" said 13 year old Serenity Williams who has since lost 13 pounds and 10 inches in just 4 weeks.
What they lose is nothing compared to what they gain, a sense of self worth and confidence to help them walk into womanhood as a lady.
