(WXYZ) - Detroit Consortium College Preparatory High School Basketball Coach Al Anderson was a big success in a short amount of time.
His charter high school team is ranked number two in Michigan with a record of 12-3. He had his biggest victory Saturday, 81-44 over Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar.
A few hours later, Coach Anderson would collapse and die of a heart attack.
He knew he had a fragile life. He was only 40 and had a pacemaker in his chest.
He was a mentor for his players, he was a father and a husband.
Principal Rod Atkins tells 7 Action News this is a sad time for the school and the team but also a celebration of a legacy.
The next game is Tuesday night. A vigil is planned for Thursday night. Playoffs and March Madness are next month. The team will be ready.
