Westland (WXYZ) -  Hundreds came together to raise money to help those in need keep their homes warm at the Walk For Warmth.

They collected donations,  walked three kilometers through Westland Mall, and finally took part in a dance party to celebrate.  It is just one of many such community events Westland Mall has recently scheduled.

WXYZ’s First Alert Forecast Meteorologists Dave Rexroth and Keenan Smith were honorary chairs of the walk.

The money raised by this fun will help the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency serve families in crisis.

It is estimated that many low-income families spend as much as 40 percent of their monthly household income on utilities.

About $60,000 was raised.
