INKSTER, Mich. (WXYZ) - Inkster police were just manning their police station when chaos broke out Friday night.

Police tell 7 Action News a small group of people came into the lobby in a panic.  Some of them were teens. They were yelling that someone was chasing them, and they wanted to file a complaint.

It happened just before midnight.

Just moments later shots came in through the windows.

No one was hit and the shooter drove off.

"The people in the lobby were very lucky," said Lt. Matt Allen of the Inkster Police Department. "You can tell by the bullet holes that the bullet just missed them."

Inkster Police say they made sure everyone was safe, then put out the alert.  Police from all over metro-Detroit were watching for the gunman and his vehicle.

Garden City Police later spotted it.  They tried to stop and arrest the shooter, but didn't get a chance.  Police say they followed as the vehicle rolled to a stop.  When they approached it they found the man had apparently committed suicide while the vehicle was still moving.

Both the shooting and the suspect's death are still under investigation.
