LIVONIA, Mich (WXYZ) - The National Motorists Association says Livonia is the Speed Trap Capital of the country.
However, Mayor Jack Kirksey and Police Chief Robert Stevenson say that is not true. They says they don't hide and trick drivers, they just do everything they can to keep the roads safe.
Drivers Action News spoke with say they agree that people who speed should get tickets.
One long time resident, Iris Acione, says she has seen Livonia Officers kind of hiding, watching drivers, but the Mayor and the Chief maintain there are no speed traps in the city.
The Mayor says that on I-275 officers park right in the median and within 15 minutes will find a driver going 85 mph or faster.
The Chief says on Levan Road between 5 Mile and 6 Mile a lot of tickets are handed out because the speed limit goes from 40 mph south of 5 mile to 25 mph just north of the intersection because an elementary school is just ahead.
There is a stationary speed detection device on Levan to show drivers just how fast they are going but sometimes it is seen too late to avoid a ticket.
