It’s not just about the Butter Ball Turkey this year. Free-range, organic turkeys from Livonia are also a hot seller.
Roperti’s Turkey Farm expects to sell out by Thanksgiving. That means more than 4,000 big birds will be leaving the farm. The toms can get as large as 40lbs, but owner Christine Roperti says she doesn’t feed them anything that isn’t natural. Their daily diet includes wheat, corn, oats and water. “The last week of their life I give nothing but corn,” Christine said.
Ironically, Roperti’s family eats anything but turkey on Thanksgiving. She said they’ve had enough of their feathery friends by then, so fillet mignon is on the menu instead.
As for her customers, they can’t get enough. More than 900 people are expected to stop by an pick-up their pre-ordered turkey on Monday alone.
