TRENTON, Mich., (WXYZ) - A tragic accident following a brief police chase claimed a life in Trenton after the driver lost control and crashed into a building.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to Trenton Police, they received a tip of a gas station robbery in neighboring Gibraltar.
It was at Fort and Van Horn that an officer say a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the robbery. As officers approached they say the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
A chase ensued but police lost sight of the car. It was later discovered crashed into the side of DeBacker’s Lawn Care and Maintenance.
“They just figured it was high speed. 90 to 100 miles an hour when he hit the building,” said TIm DeBacker.
DeBacker lives about 150 yards from the site of this morning's accident. In fact it happened on this property. The building houses DeBacker’s Lawn Care and Maintenance and surprisingly enough, this isn’t the first accident to happen at here.
“Well if you take a look there's a bend right here and drivers aren't watching, they kind of go to fast and it's aiming right for the building. ”
As police continue to investigate the circumstance surrounding this latest crash Tim says one thing is clear; “speed kills. ”
