ROMULUS, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 63-year-old man from Alabama is in critical condition after a chain-reaction crash in Romulus.
It happened around 10:00 am Saturday on I-94 near the exit ramp to Wayne Road.
Police believe the man saw a stranded driver on the side of the road and got out of his vehicle to help. He began walking across the freeway and was hit by a car traveling westbound on I-94.
The accident set off a chain-reaction crash. At least eight other cars were involved. The man was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition.
A tow truck driver on the scene told 7 Action News the man had been driving a TransAm semi truck.
No other serious injuries were reported.
I-94 was shut down for three hours while police conducted their investigation.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
