Paris Gomillion was sentenced to serve 5 to 12 1/2 years in prison for carjacking WWII veteran Aaron Brantley back in February.
The attack was caught on surveillance cameras and shows the then 86 year-old Brantley being pushed to the ground. Brantley had to crawl for help with a broken leg because passers-by did nothing.
Aaron Brantley told Action News that he thinks Gomillion's punishment is sufficient.
He says Gomillion and Gomillion's mother have sent him letters offering an apology and asking for forgiveness.
"He was asking me to pray for him to be a better person," says Brantley.
Brantley says he has prayed for Gomillion. He also says February's attack at a gas station at McNichols and Fairfield has changed his routine.
"When I get gas I usually have someone with me ... Otherwise I don’t go. I don't stop," he says.
However, Brantley says he is doing well and is back on his feet again.
"I walk just like I used to walk," he says.
When asked if he forgives Gomillion, Brantley said "Oh yeah. I feel like he knows what he did wrong and he wouldn’t do that to anyone else."
