ROMULUS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Metro Airport was busy and crazy outside and inside on the day before Thanksgiving, but a surprise for a soon-to-be-soldier made it all worth while for his family and those watching.
When Jacob Cole, a first year student at West Point arrived, not only was he greeted by his mom and dad and the Patriot Guard, his parents flew in his best friend from California to be here for him as well.
"It's awesome", said Jacob, "I didn't have any idea any of this was going to happen." His friend, Joe, said "We have a lot of lost time to catch up on, this is awesome."
As this was going on, other West Point students came off the plane and other current and former military men and women who arrived on other flights were saluted and welcomed by members of the Patriot Guard as well.
It was an emotional scene, away from the hustle and bustle of what was going on outside. "This is a blessing to have all these supporters," said Jacob.
Meanwhile, airport officials said they welcomed such patriotism and beyond that were pretty pleased with a very busy day before Thanksgiving at Metro Airport.
