DETROIT (WXYZ) - Mittens For Detroit launched its third year of collections efforts to provide new mittens and gloves for Detroit families this winter.
Mittens For Detroit was by Actress Erin Cummings in 2010, after she relocated to the Detroit-area for her role in the TV series Detroit 1-8-7.
Within the first two years, the organization collected more than 25,000 new pairs of mittens and gloves. They were given to residents in need through Detroit-based non-profit partners like COTS, Covenant House of Michigan and the Michigan Veterans Foundation.
New this year, Cummings has launched a Mittens For Detroit fine jewelry collection to help bolster fundraising efforts.
Supporters can drop off gloves and mittens one of more than 50 drop box locations, or they can donate tax-deductible funds to the organization. To find out how to donate, visit the Mittens for Detroit website at mittensfordetroit.org .
