DETROIT (WXYZ) - The short-film Oscar nominees are often the most creative…but yet the most difficult to find.

Good news for movie buffs!  The Detroit Institute of Arts is bringing back its Oscar nominated shorts program to the Detroit Film Theatre.

Now you can be the judge!   Which shorts do you think will take home the top honors at the Oscars on Sunday, February 26th?

Over the next two weekends, film-goers can see all of the live-action and animated short films vying for a gold statuette.

Some of the films are just 7-minutes long.  Others are closer to 30 minutes.  So a good rule of thumb is to expect a three-hour show with an intermission.

"The films can be funny.  They can be poignant and sometimes all at the same time," said Elliot Wilhelm, Film Curator at the DIA.

"The film La Luna is about the stars, the heavens, and it puts it in the form of a fantastic fable that is absolutely winning and charming," he explained pointing out why critics are falling in love with this animated short by Pixar.

His pick for best live-action short?  Maybe Tuba Atlantic.  It's a film about a man whose doctor says he has six days to live, and he spends it trying to get in touch with his long, lost brother.

"It's a really elegant, cool little short story," said Wilhelm.
