PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich (WXYZ) - ABC's new show Pan Am premiered Sunday night and one local woman was certainly watching the show take flight.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Judy welcome aboard."
She can still sell it with the same smile and pride that made Judy Sommariva of Plymouth Township a successful Pan Am stewardess from the late 60's to the late 70's.
"Flying with Pan Am was absolutely undescribable because we were considered the flagship of America" said Judy, who started at the airlines reservation desk in Detroit, but soon set out across the world at the age of 23 as a representative for the airlines class and customer care.
"Our customer service was unrivaled by any domestic or international carrier. I actually cracked eggs and cooked them to order for our First class passengers," said Sommariva. "In the 60's they had more of a military appearance, but then in 70's designer Edith Head made our new uniforms, all other airlines were jealous."
Judy says each flight was as unique as the places they stopped. She traveled with the world with Pan Am, but no matter all the fun she had in the air, her heart was always on the ground. "I was working at Metro Airport. I met her there... she was in uniform and from there it has been 32 years of a wonderful marriage," said her husband Bob.
