WYANDOTTE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Wyandotte Police say they have arrested a 7-month pregnant woman who was high on marijuana while driving in the downtown area of the city.
Police told 7 Action News the 31-year-old mother-to-be was swerving on southbound Biddle.
Police say when she was pulled over, an officer noticed a strong odor marijuana coming from the car. The incident happened on March 7 at around 8:50 pm.
An officer could smell pot on her clothes and noticed her red, glassy eyes when the woman stepped out of her vehicle.
According to investigators, a K-9 officer recovered weed from her purse - along with marijuana paraphernalia.
Police said the suspect had a hard time balancing and admitted to taking the pain pill Vicodin that day. The suspect also allegedly told officers she had a prescription for Vicodin and Soma.
The expecting mother was taken into custody and given a blood test. She was arrested on several charges including Driving While Intoxicated - 2nd Offense, Child Endangerment, Possession Of Marijuana, and driving without headlights.
Although she was arrested for all of those crimes, it’s not clear what she will be charged with. An investigation is ongoing.
A man who was in the car with her was not arrested. Once the drugs were out of her system she was sent home.
The suspect was charged a few years ago with Driving While Intoxicated.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s offices will decide on the exact charges.
