REDFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 52-year-old from Redford has been charged in a Stranger Danger case that spooked parents on the second day of the year.
Terry Lee Kostiuk has been charged with Attempt Child Enticement and Attempt Accosting and Soliciting a Minor for an Immoral Purpose.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's office says that on January 2 Kostiuk drove up to a six-year-old girl and offered her candy.
The incident happened in the 18800 block of Poinciana . Police announced a man had been taken into custody in the case hours after releasing a sketch.
Kostiuk was arraigned on the charges shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
During the arraignment Redford Township Police told the judge he admitted he intended to entice the girl into his car for “immoral purposes.”
The 52-year-old has a history of such crimes. He is on the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry, and was convicted of Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes 2nd offense in Washtenaw County in November 1996.
The judge set bond at $100,000 cash, and ordered that if he is released he wear a GPS tether. A preliminary exam is set for January 15 th at 9 a.m. in 17th District Court.
If convicted he faces 1.5 times the typical sentence because he is a repeat offender.
During the hearing Kostiuk asked if he could be released for work at a local grocery store. The judge said not by him.
