RIVERVIEW, Mich. (WXYZ) - Thieves violated the sanctity of a church twice in two months, ripping off thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
The robbers targeted St. Cyprian, breaking into the church’s shed.
“They took all of our lawn and garden equipment, and some of our snow equipment. That totaled $1500,” said Father William Promesso, St. Cyprian’s pastor.
That was in July. In August the crooks came back.
“Last Sunday August 16th we were broken into again. This time all the new equipment was taken, totaling $4500,” Father Promesso said.
Father Promesso says the church has insurance to help pay for the stolen items, but even so it’s not easy for the congregation to keep replacing the stolen items. The father says he’s increased security on the shed and installed more lighting – ultimately though he’s hoping the crooks give back what doesn’t belong to them.
