ROMULUS (WXYZ) - After a hellish trip on the Carnival Triumph, a Saline woman is finally back home.
Gina Howe arrived at Detroit Metro Airport Friday afternoon to a big welcome. She was greeted by her husband, two teenage children and several other relatives and friends.
Howe was among 4,200 passengers and crew members stuck aboard the Carnival Triumph after a fire in the engine room. She says she spent just one night in a dark, hot interior room before she couldn’t take it anymore. The toilet in her cabin overflowed with raw sewage. After that, she and her friend slept on the ship’s deck for the remaining time.
While Howe is eager to go home and spend time with family, she’ll first stop at the emergency room. She says she developed a rash on her leg while staying on the ship. She wants to get a clean bill of health before heading home.
When asked if she’ll redeem the voucher from the cruise line for a free trip, Howe was hesitant, but says, “Never say never.”
