School board member steps down after drug possession charge

HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Harper Woods School District received school board member Rachelle Anderson’s resignation Monday night.

Earlier that day, Anderson had been arraigned on a charge of being in Possession Of Marijuana.  Anderson and her boyfriend were arrested in November at her home along Woodlawn Street in Harper Woods.

Tucker was charged with being in Possession Of Heroin Under 50 Grams, Maintaining A Drug House, and Possession Of Marijuana.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department told 7 Action News the couple had been under investigation for a while.

While the home belonged to Anderson, it is alleged Tucker was the one dealing drugs at the house.  Anderson’s attorney Matt C. Brown is declaring his client’s innocence and said the former school board member has been painted unfairly in recent reports.

Harper Woods School superintendent Todd Biederwolf issued this statement,  “We recognize and appreciate her past service to the Harper Woods community in this capacity.  Consistent with state law, the Board of Education will move forward to appoint a new member to assume this important role on a timely basis.”

7 Action News stopped by Anderson’s home for a comment on her legal situation. 

She passed along this note:  “We are innocent and our attorneys will be vigorously defending us against these charges.

Anderson’s pretrial is in the next few weeks.  Tucker is still in the Macomb county jail on $25,000 bond.
