Joe Gentz released from Grosse Pointe Park Police Department in Bashara case

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Joe Gentz has been released from the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department.

Gentz has been in custody in connection with the murder of Jane Bashara. He has been held since January 31. On that day, he walked into the police department to talk about the murder of Jane Bashara.

Earlier on the investigation, additional sources told 7 Action News that he admitted to playing a significant role in her death.

Gentz reportedly told police he turned himself in because he was afraid he would be blamed for the whole thing.

According to sources, Joe Gentz admitted to having a role in the murder, and also said that Bob Bashara - Jane Bashara's husband - had a role as well.

Gentz reportedly told police Jane Bashara was killed in her garage.

Jane Bashara was found murdered in her Mercedes-Benz SUV on Detroit's east side on January 25. It was determined that she had been strangled.

Bob Bashara told police that he reported his wife missing Tuesday, January 24 around 11:30 p.m. and says he had no contact with her that night. She was found dead the next day.

He is considered a "person of interest" in the case.

Lawyer David Griem tells 7 Action News that when police asked Bob Bashara for a list of people who might want to harm him or his family, the name Joseph Gentz was on the list.

Two women who lived in the same Saint Clair Shores apartment building as Joseph Gentz say he was frightening and unpredictable, that he often made threats and talked about guns and knives. Gentz was evicted from the apartment building last summer.

Kellie Roddy and Debra McWerter tell 7 Action News when Gentz was evicted he barricaded himself in his apartment and police had to be called to come and get him out.
