DETROIT (WXYZ) - Wayne County leaders are looking for answers after 7 Action News investigators exposed a severance scandal.
In August Turkia Mullin left her position as economic director to become the new CEO of Metro Airport where she will earn $250,000 a year. Despite the fact that Mullin left voluntarily, she was given a $200,000 severance.
Initially, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano said he had to pay the money because of a contract, but the county later admitted there never was a contract.
Mullin has since agreed to give up the money, but county leaders want to make sure this doesn't happen again. Commissioners have formed a special committee on appointee compensation to investigate how the county pays its top employees.
The committee is expected to meet for the first time at 10:00am Tuesday.
