DETROIT (WXYZ) - Criminal charges against James Brown have been reinstated in Macomb County after they were dismissed in Detroit.
Brown has not been charged with murder, but he is accused of crimes in connection to the deaths of Demesha Hunt, Renisha Landers, Natasha Curtis and Vernithia McCrary.
All four women were found dead in trunks of cars in Detroit last December. Police say three of the four women had ties to Backpage.com - a classifieds site with escort ads.
Weeks ago, Detroit Police sources told 7 Action News they believed the women were killed in Sterling Heights and investigators believe a series of crimes took place there as well. That's why Brown's criminal charges were reinstated by prosecutors in Macomb County.
Brown is charged with disinternment or moving of a dead body and arson.
When the magistrate addressed bond in a Sterling Heights courtroom today, Brown stunned everyone when he said she could just sent him back to jail. Brown stated "you can remand me."
Brown is being held at the Macomb County jail on $1,000,000 bond. He'll be back in court for a preliminary hearing on June 8th in Sterling Heights.
Earlier this week, after charges were dismissed in Detroit, Lerise Boyd, Demesha Hunt's aunt told 7 Action News "We just want justice served."
She says Hunt had nothing to do with Backpage.com and that her family will not give up fighting for justice.
When asked if Brown could also face murder charges in this case, police would only say that they are still investigating.
