GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Grosse Pointe Farms police are looking for suspects who broke into several homes over the weekend and left a trail of theft at a nearby gas station.

Lt. Rich Rosati said three homes on Belanger and Calvin were broken into early Sunday morning as the victims slept inside. The burglar stole laptops, a digital camera and purses.

Rosati said the suspect didn’t stop there.

Surveillance video from the Valero gas station on Warren near Cadieux shows three men using what appear to be the stolen credit cards from the purses.

“You can see that he uses it at his car, and then two other cars show up not long after,” Rosati said, describing the video. “They hand the card to each of the individuals, and they fill up.”

After topping off the tank, the men go on to make purchases in the convenience store.

“They were going to use that card until they couldn’t use that card anymore,” Rosati told 7 Action News.

Police say targeting credit cards to get free gas isn’t new, but it’s become increasingly frequent. A similar incident recently happened in Grosse Pointe as well.

At this time, no suspects are in custody in the Grosse Pointe Farms situations.
