HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Two people are recovering after being shot during an attempted carjacking early Monday morning in the area of Gratiot and Eight Mile in Detroit.

The victims called 911 shortly before 1:40 a.m. saying they had been approached by a man with an automatic weapon who demanded their vehicle. They told the dispatcher that he had opened fire after they refused.

The victims told the dispatcher that they were able to get away from the scene, but that they were now being chased by the suspects.

The dispatcher then directed the victims to the Harper Woods Police Department, where they would be met be police officers. However, once the victims made it to the police station, the suspects continued to chase them around the parking lot.

Officers were able to stop the suspects' vehicle in front of the station as it attempted to leave the area. The driver was taken into custody and police recovered an AR-15 with a 100 round drum magazine from the car.

A second suspect was able to run from the scene. Officers eventually located him in the area of Beaconsfield and Woodmont with assistance from the Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Farms and Grosse Pointe Shores police departments.

It was later determined that the suspect's car had been stolen in an earlier carjacking near Wayne State University. They have been turned over to the Detroit Police Department.
