GROSSE ILE, Mich. (WXYZ) - A fabulous 50’s event honored war veterans on Grosse Ile Saturday.
The 2nd Annual Grosse Ile Veterans Gala was held for veterans and their families.
This year honored the Korean War veterans.
"This is a great event," said Korean War Vet Jim Leedy. "Last year it was World War II. This year is Korea. We're honoring all veterans, of course. And then next year it'll be Vietnam."
"I was in World War II, and then I came here as a reserve and then they recalled me to duty int he Korean War," explained George Kalamas who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
The event included war reenactments, military vehicles and aircraft on display, even dancing, all in an effort to help veterans relive the 1950’s.
A B-25 bomber was on display but the only bombshell inside was Channel 7’s own Alicia Smith who emceed the event.
The Army’s Screaming Eagles Parachute Team “dropped in” to present the American Flag during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.
The event wrapped up with a 50’s dress and dance contest to live music provided by Solitaire, The Monroe Big Band, and singers Janet Bunch and Sharon Tocco.
