TAYLOR (WXYZ) - Firearms training classes are getting booked fast, and instructors say it’s women who are filling the seats.
Dwayne DeCaires, a trainer through Time on Target in Taylor, says women are often looking to take their safety into their own hands. He estimates 65%-70% of the classes are now filled by women.
“The streets have changed,” said DeCaires. “There are more predators out there. There are more people taking advantage of people, and people want to protect themselves.”
Amy Crum, whose husband is a police officer, attended DeCaires’ Saturday course. “It was just a personal decision of my own to realize that I’m the person who has to take care of myself and my kids. And I’ll be able to do that now,” said Crum.
