NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - An investigation is underway to find out what caused a deadly fire in Northville.
The blaze broke out late this morning in a townhouse on Jamestown Circle. It was the home of 96-year-old Emily Miller.
She lived alone, but had just talked to one of her sons about an hour before the fire.
A maintenance worker tried to help miller get out. Marsh Vinson was about to change the batteries in the unit next door to Miller's when he heard the smoke alarms from her townhouse blaring. But there was nothing Vinson could do.
“It’s just a blur right now,” said Vinson.
There is still no final determination of what caused the fire, but investigators say the 96-year-old was a smoker.
