(WXYZ) - U.S. News & World Report has released its rankings of the best hospitals in the country, as well as rankings by region.
University Of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers in Ann Arbor was the only hospital in Michigan to be included on the nationwide list. It was ranked 17th overall, down three spots from 2011.
For the first time, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston has ranked first on the national list. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, which held the top spot for 21 years, is now second on the list.

In the Detroit area, the top five hospitals included:
1. University Of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers in Ann Arbor
2. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak
3. Harper University Hospital in Detroit
4. Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit
5. Beaumont Hospital in Troy
Rankings were based on factors such as patient survival rates, staffing levels and surveys from thousands of specialists.
