(WXYZ) - The University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers was once again ranked best in Michigan by U.S. News & World Report.
The annual rankings are based on several factors including patient survival rates, patient safety, nurse staffing, reputation with specialists and breadth of patient services.
For years, the University of Michigan has been named to the report's Honor Roll of the nation's best overall hospitals, but came up short this year.
To be placed on the Honor Roll , hospitals must score near the top in at least six of 16 specialties, but University of Michigan failed to do so this year.
Still, University of Michigan received national recognition in 12 adult and ten pediatric specialties. It received its highest ranking in adult specialties for Ophthalmology, ranked 11th in the nation.
It received its highest ranking in pediatric specialties for Cardiology & Heart Surgery, ranked sixth nationally.
Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak was ranked second in Michigan. It was also ranked nationally in 7 adult specialties.
DMC Harper University Hospital in Detroit was ranked third in Metro Detroit and fourth in Michigan. It was ranked nationally in two adult specialties.
