WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A gruesome discovery in West Bloomfield has investigators working to identify a body. The body was found in a pond by a nearby resident.
The stillness of the pond remains a stark contrast to what Kate Dixon discovered Thursday inside the water.
“I saw a body floating face down right here." said Dixon, "Barefoot.”
Dixon called 911 immediately. As crews prepared to retrieve the victim, it became clear the body had been in the water for some time.
“It looked like it had been there for at least a couple days." said Dixon, "It’s been hot the last couple days, so things happen quickly.”
Investigators are now working to identify the remains. Residents say the discovery has certainly created ripples in these usually still waters.
“It’s very weird." said Dixon, "You just don’t stumble upon a dead body in West Bloomfield. And I don’t wish that upon anybody, but I’m just glad that we found it sooner rather than later.”
Sources tell 7 Action News the body looks to have been in the water at least a week. Investigators are now looking through missing persons reports to see if they can find similar matches. An autopsy for the body is scheduled for Friday.
