New, free app could earn you free stuff just by watching TV

(WXYZ) - A free app debuting today could earn you free stuff just by watching TV.

It’s called “Viggle.”

When you tap the screen, Viggle’s software (for iPhones and iPads) recognizes what you’re watching and gives you credits.

For each minute you’re tuned in, you’ll get about two points. Once you get 7,500 points, you’ll get a $5 gift card from retailers like Burger King, Best Buy, and Starbucks.

You’ll even be able to redeem those gift cards directly from your device.

If you watch TV about three hours a night, it would take you about three weeks to earn enough for a latte at Starbucks.

That might not sound like much, but getting paid for doing something you’re going to do anyway isn’t too bad of a deal.

You can also score bonus points for watching certain shows or sitting through the ads on your device.
