The iPhone Case That Opens Your Beer

Melbourne (WXYZ) - If you got a new iPhone for Christmas now you need a case to put it in. And two blokes from down under have invented a most unique iPhone case.

Its called the Opena ... pronounced like 'opener' with an Australian accent. And this iPhone case doubles as a bottle opener.

"The one thing you're always looking for is a bottle opener,"  Rob Ward tells me in a Skype interview from Melbourne. "The one thing you always have with you is the iPhone so it was a no brainer. We just though why not put a bottle opener on the back of the iPhone and have the best of both worlds."

The Opena is an invention born of necessity and fueled by beer. "Yes many," Co-inventor Chris Peters tells me, getting enthusiastic agreement from Rob,  "Lots of beers helps the creative process we find."

Rob and Chris began shipping the Opena just three or four months ago and already ship to 30 countries, including the US. Its become a full time job.

"We knew it was a good idea," Chris says, "But I don't think we knew it would get this big this quickly."

But Rob knew they were onto something. "As soon as we started showing it just to our friends everyone said 'that's so cool' and they'd take it off you and they didn't want to give it back."

The Opena sells for about $40 dollars and is available in black and white. You can even get it customized .
