(WXYZ) - The active search has ended for a man who jumped off of a boat into Swan Creek in Monroe County and didn't resurface.
Witnesses say an 8-year-old boy jumped off of the boat. He was wearing a life jacket but started drifting away from the boat.
Authorities tell 7 Action News his mother's boyfriend, 36, jumped in to try to bring the boy back to the boat, but his shoulder went out, and the man went under.
The little boy made it back into the boat, but the man did not.
We're told that the family was out on the boat enjoying fireworks near the Swan Boat Club.
"He never came up, it's horrible," said Cindy Hemme, a neighbor who helped search for the man. "We've been searching and searching."
Although the active search has ended, the U.S. Coast Guard tells 7 Action News that they will continue to monitor the situation.
