(WXYZ) - Some schools are banning Flamin' Hot Cheetos because of nutrition concerns.
Teachers say kids are becoming addicted to the brand and substituting one bag for an entire lunch.
A health teacher at a middle school in New Mexico sent a letter home to parents asking them not to allow their kids to bring Flamin' Hot Cheetos to school.
Charter schools in the Chicago area have already banned kids from bringing the snack for lunch.
One bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos contains about 700 calories and 44 grams of fat. It also has about 1,000 milligrams of sodium, which amounts to nearly half the intake of salt an adult should consume a day, according to the FDA.
Teachers also complain that kids are sharing bags of Cheetos with their friends, which spreads germs.
The teacher in New Mexico also complained that orange fingerprints are showing up all over school, which leads to more work for custodians.
Cheetos has defended its product, saying the company does not market to children under 12 years old.
