SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) -

A 3-day event designed to teach participants how to protect themselves is scheduled for several locations in the Detroit area.

The free Personal Protection Weekend starts Saturday with seminars at the Comfort Suites in Southfield, just north of Detroit.

Empowering survivors of domestic violence, building safe communities, using Tasers for personal protection and Michigan's concealed pistol regulations are among the topics for discussion.

Free firearm training will be held Sunday at the Target Sports Gun Range in Orchard Lake, northwest of Detroit.

National gun rights advocates are expected to speak in Detroit Monday during a dinner supporting the open carry gun rights movement in Michigan.
