LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Communities and school districts in 70 counties are holding local elections today.
Voters can see if there's an election in their community by clicking here , by visiting the state government website or by checking with their county clerk.
Polls opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 8:00 p.m.
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says the election is a "chance to be heard" on issues that affect local school districts, cities and community colleges.
Voters will be asked to provide a driver's license or photo identification card when they go to vote. If they don't have one or forget to bring it, they can sign a brief affidavit attesting to their identity.
The Michigan Information Center at www.michigan.gov/vote can tell residents if they're registered and where to vote.
