SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) - Firefighters from several nearby departments battled a huge blaze outside a sprawling recycling center in Southfield.
Thursday evening, flames were shooting from a lot near a building housing the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County.
Southfield acting Fire Chief Keith Rowley says workers saw flames coming from an area holding large bundles of recycled paper, cardboard and plastics.
Rowley says high winds fed the fire and says firefighters are "surrounding and drowning" the blaze.
There are no immediate reports of injuries.
Receptacles at the center accept newspapers, magazines, boxes, plastic containers, computers and other electronics.
