PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - An emergency preparedness official from St. Clair County is one of 17 people being honored Thursday at the White House as part of the Champions of Change program.
Jodi Simpson is a homeland security planner for the county's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. She also serves on the Michigan Region 2 North Citizen Corps Committee and is the coordinator for the St. Clair County Citizen Corps.
The White House says the 17 local leaders are all involved in disaster preparedness work.
The Champions of Change program is part of President Barack Obama's Winning the Future initiative. The White House says that each week, the program highlights a different issue.
The White House says people can view the event live online at 1:30 p.m.
