DETROIT (AP) - Wayne State University says it has reached a tentative eight-year contract agreement with the union for 1,950 faculty and academic staff members.

The Detroit school announced the deal Tuesday, declining to reveal details. It would replace a contract that expired July 31, 2012.

Wayne State President Alan Gilmour says the deal recognizes the value of the university faculty and staff while providing for accountability and flexibility.

The agreement awaits ratification by members of American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers Local 6075. The university's board of governors also must approve the deal.
