Attorneys General vs. Craigslist
Posted: 08/24/2010
State Attorneys General, including Mike Cox of Michigan, are confronting Craigslist and demanding the company dump its adult services section. 17 of them signed a letter in which they say, "ads for prostitution -- including ads traffiking children -- are rampant" on Craigslist.
The Attorneys General are demanding that Craigslist immediately stop accepting ads which they say are exploiting and victimizing women and children. They claim Craigslist is not adequately blocking the ads.
The states involved in sending the letter include: Michigan, Connecticut, Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
The Attorney General of Massachusetts sent a separate letter to Craigslist calling for the company to remove the adult services ads.
Phone calls which reporters placed to Cragislist for a comment, were not immediately returned.
