STERLING HEIGHTS, MICH (WXYZ) - Both a Sterling Heights police sergeant and a woman were slightly injured early Sunday morning when they were involved in an accident while waiting at an intersection.

The veteran officer and the woman were sitting in their respective cars when another car hit them. Police say the third car was trying to go between them at Westbound Metro Parkway at Dodge Park at around 4:15 am.

The 3rd car was being driven by a 23-year-old Warren man. A 23-year-old woman from Harrison Township in the car with him.

Officers say they continued into the intersection before coming to a stop. Then, police say, they tried to switch places as the man sought the passenger seat. However, witnesses saw what was happening.

Both the man and woman were arrested on charges of interfering with the accident. Police also indicate that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The officer was taken to Henry Ford Hospital Macomb with a head injury. He was treated and released.

The woman whose car was also struck injured her wrist, but did not require treatment.

The 2 suspects were not injured.

Police say any charges connected with the case have not yet been determined.
