(WXYZ) - Strong winds this morning caused about 18,000 power outages across metro Detroit.

Wayne County was the hardest hit area leaving 7,500 customers without power. Washtenaw, Oakland and Macomb County each have 3,000 residents affected by the outage.

DTE is working to fix the outages and is making progress. As of about 11:30 p.m. about 7,000 customers had their service restored.

However, 11,000 customers are still without power. Half of them are in Wayne County. The rest are scattered throughout southeastern Michigan.

7 First Alert Meteorologist Chris Edwards says winds are dying down. DTE does not expect many additional outages to occur.
