(WXYZ) - A mother of two is accused of driving while super drunk with her two children inside her car.
It happened in mid-August around 12:30 am. According to Troy police, 29-year-old Shafeque Geinece Berry was traveling along John R when she ran through a red light.
“The officer did observe this and he ended up pulling her over,” said officer Janice Pokley.
The officer saw Berry’s twin 7-year-old daughters inside the vehicle.
Berry was given a sobriety test. According to officers, she had a blood alcohol level of over .16 which is more than twice the legal limit.
“She didn’t have any apologetic statements or anything other than she was on her way home,” said officer Pokley.
No one was hurt.
Troy police reminds drivers that nothing is important enough to risk the safety of your children, you, and other drivers if you have had too much to drink.
“It’s absolutely horrible,” officer Pokley. “As a mother, we are there to protect out children… it’s a tragedy.
Berry is charged with Operating Under The Influence, Child Endangerment, and Driving While License Suspended.
Her bond was set at $1500 cash surety or ten percent.
