(WXYZ) - Catholic Central senior Tanner Cipriano has faced a lot of adversity since the night his father Robert was killed in an attack on his family.

Tanner's mother Rose and his twin brother Sal were left fighting for their lives that night after Tanner’s adoptive brother Tucker and his friend Mitchell Young allegedly attacked the family with a baseball bat. Tanner is now doing his best to move forward and Friday was another step in the healing process. He was honored along with his school for some outstanding successes.

It was about school pride and family Friday for the Catholic Central annual boy’s bowl pep rally. Novi Mayor Bob Gatt was on hand to recognize them for being named a top 50 Catholic High School in the Country. Catholic Central also paid tribute to 12 National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists. One of them was Tanner Cipriano.  As the class president, he also helped organize the party. Tanner is also the president of the school band and a member of the football team.  This kid is truly one of a kind.

At the request of the family, we did not speak with Tanner. He is working on accomplishing many goals and  trying to move forward while making the most of his last school year. This young man is showing maturity well beyond his years and his smile is as bright as his future.

Rose is and has been making an amazing recovery.  She attended Tanner’s football game last Friday night on family night.  Tanner’s twin brother Sal was not able to attend the game or Friday's rally.  He is also making progress and staying in the same rehab facility as his mom.  Their recovery has been nothing short of a miracle.

Sal was not forgotten by his teammates and coaches Friday. They honored him with banners in the gym, spoke about missing him at school and asked everyone for continued prayer for his quick recovery.

Despite the unthinkable situation the Cipriano’s were dealt, Tanner and the rest of the family are doing as good as anyone could hope for, taking it day by day.
