DETROIT, MICH (WXYZ) - Just one day after Halloween and the City of Detroit is gearing up for Christmas!
The official Detroit Christmas Tree has arrived! It came in under dark during the early morning in an unceremonious, very discreet, delivery to Campus Martius on a flatbed truck all the way from Manton, Michigan.
The tree itself weighs more than 10,000 pounds and tops out at 55 feet!
It will be a couple of weeks before it comes to full grandeur while it's decked out in over 18,000 lights that string out more than 3 miles long.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony won't take place until Friday, November 16th, at 7:45 p.m. with lots of exciting things to see and do. It kicks off at 5 p.m. that day with live music, the opening of Campus Martius ice skating with skaters from the Arctic Figure Skating Club and the Detroit Skating Club, the Red Kettle Bounce House, carriage rides and pictures with Santa!
You'll be able to hear Dwayne Brown, Ben Sharkey with his 7 piece band, the Rackham Symphony Choir, the MOT Children's Chorus, the Michigan Philharmonic Brass Quintet, and the Salvation Army Brass Band.
You can also check out the specialty gifts at the "Christmas WonderFest" in Cadillac Square right across the street.
