DETROIT(WXYZ) - Tropical storm Isaac is brewing miles away in the Gulf Coast but travelers in Michigan are feeling the effects.

Some flights to Florida were delayed at Metro airport Monday morning due to Isaac gaining intensity and moving north.

Air travelers are advised to check the status of flights early and often, even if the flight isn't near Isaac's path. Connecting flights nationwide are also being affected by the storm.

Hundreds of flights nationwide have been delayed or canceled because of the tropical storm which is expected to turn into a category 1 Hurricane.
